Indian filmmakers have always remade Hollywood ventures. But for the first time in the history of Indian cinema, Hollywood production houses are interested in remaking Indian films.
Right after news broke out that the remake rights of Shriram Raghvan’s Johnny Gaddar have been sold to Los Angeles based producer Ray Haboush, buzz has it that 3 Idiots also may be remade.
“Two of Hollywood’s most powerful and famous studios have shown keen interest in buying the remake rights of 3 Idiots. The authorities were pretty impressed with the film and feel that it had potential to make for a good plot for a Hollywood film.
The studios are even said to have gotten in touch with Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Raju Hirani and have offered a huge sum to bag the film’s rights. Vidhu, who has bought a house in Los Angeles, will soon fly down there to work out the deal,” said a source.
