Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has invited Bollywood veterans Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi for dinner with US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle in the capital Nov 7.

"Javed and I invited by Prime Minister for dinner with Obama on 7th November," Shabana, a well-known actress and social activist, posted on the microblogging site Twitter.

Shabana seems quite excited about the meeting, and is quite sure that Obama will manage a second term as president.

"USA full of doubts whether he will get a second term. I’m pretty sure he will," she added.

Obama, who arrives in Mumbai Nov 6, lands here Nov 7 when the prime minister is slated to host a private dinner at his 7, Race Course Road residence. On Nov 8, there will be a grand banquet for the Obamas at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He leaves Nov 9.

The older generation of Bollywood is becoming more and more pro at catching up on Twitter. After actors Shammi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan , it is veteran singer Asha Bhonsle and lyricist Javed Akhtar who have entered into the micro-blogging sphere.

While Akhtar joined Twitter on Monday, the 76-year-old singer has been on the site for quite sometime now but was welcomed by filmmaker Karan Johar today.

"Apologies for my late twitter announcement…the legend… and the voice that nurtured my love for the movies @ashabhonsle is in the house!!!(sic)," Johar tweeted.

The ’Chura liya hai’ hitmaker already has 3946 followers. "Pancham jokingly referred to song ’Mera Kuch Samaan’ as ’Luggage Song’. My band members still call it that when we are on concert tour," reads Bhosle’s latest tweet.

But Akhtar, 65, has already outdone the singer as far as number of followers is concerned, garnering 4638 within 19 hours of joining Twitter.

"Hi everybody. This is Javed Akhtar joining the twitter club. Hope to share ideas, thoughts, feelings, experiences with you all. May I!" he wrote in his very first tweet.

The lyricist was welcomed by Johar as well, who wrote, "@javedakhtarjadu adds to twitter humour and perspective!!! Follow the man and his cartloads of wisdom!!"

Lyricist and Rajya Sabha MP Javed Akhtar has been provided round-the-clock security following death threats received by him for allegedly calling an Islamic cleric "insane" during a television debate on a fatwa against working women.

"We have provided security to Javed Akhtar by posting armed guards at his house. The guards would follow him wherever he goes," a police official said.

Akhtar has been receiving threat mails after he commented on the fatwa issued by Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband.

An email received by him on May 12 had said "your countdown has begun".

The lyricist had lodged a complaint with the police on Friday and was given protection since yesterday.

The cyber cell of Mumbai police and Anti Terrorism Squad are probing the email threat received by him.

Reacting to the threat, Javed Akhtar said, "I would not be restricted in movement or speech. I have always stood up for what I think is right and I would continue to do so".

The fatwa had said it was un-Islamic for women to work in offices in proximity with men and decreed that acceptance of their earnings by a family was against the Sharia.
